Last year, the NC Nurses PAC spent more than $140,000 on campaign contributions to politicians in North Carolina’s state legislature. The large majority of those contributions go to Republicans.
That means the NC Nurses PAC has donated tens of thousands of dollars – funded by your contributions – to radical-right politicians who are passing sweeping abortion bans, racist partisan gerrymanders, weakening North Carolina’s gun safety laws and defunding our schools.
Are these nurses’ values?
Are they yours?

Republican State Representative
Keith Kidwell
Plus 20 more of their extremist Republican colleagues received tens of thousands from the NC Nurses PAC.
These politicians gave us…
Republican State Senator Joyce Krawiec: NCNA’s Senate Legislator of the Year?
In September 2023, the NCNA gave Republican State Senator Joyce Krawiec its “Legislator of the Year” award.
- Krawiec is a far-right Republican extremist, and a leading voice for banning abortion in our state legislature. She even invented a totally fictional story about infanticide at UNC Hospital, which she refused to explain.
- Krawiec is no supporter of Medicaid expansion. In fact, she has fought Medicaid expansion her entire political career.
- She even said to the attendees of the 2017 Women’s March, “if brains were lard, you couldn’t grease a small skillet.”

Is this what nurses want?
We don’t think so, either.
The NCNA is a member-based organization, whose leadership is elected by the membership. That means your voice – and your support – really matters.
Tell the leaders of the NC Nurses Association to stop funding radical right-wing extremism in our legislature:
Trish Richardson, President: trishrichardson@ncnurses.org
Tina Gordon, CEO: tinagordon@ncnurses.org
Manager of Political Engagement: alixjohn@ncnurses.org
Remember what Grandma said: honey catches more flies than vinegar. We ask that you be respectful and polite – but also firm – in your outreach to NCNA leaders.
And if the NCNA won’t pull their contributions to radical politicians, perhaps it’s time to pull your contributions to the NC Nurses PAC.
Remember: it’s your money. And the NCNA is your organization, too. With your help, the NCNA can reflect the values and ethical core that the organization models for itself. But only if nurses are informed, and speak up.
